How many days in advance do we have to be
at the Resort before we can get married?
Mexico: If the wedding is at any of the RIU Hotels & Resorts in Playa del
Carmen, Cancun or Los Cabos, bride and groom and witnesses ( if required ) need
to be on destination at least three full business days prior the wedding for
legal ceremonies and two full business days for religious ceremony.
If the wedding is at any of the RIU Hotels &
Resorts in Puerto Vallarta, bride and groom and witnesses ( if required ) need
to be on destination at least two full business days prior the wedding for legal
or Religious ceremony.
Sunday is not considered a business day.
What is the latest time we can arrive at the Resort for it to count toward
the "business day" requirement?
The arrival date does not count toward your requirement at any of the Riu Hotels
& Resorts except for those in Jamaica.
What are the differences between Legal (Civil), religious and symbolic
cremonies?
México: Only a civil ceremonie is legally recognized. A religious ceremony has
no legal bearing and does not replace in any way the binding legal civil
Marriage.
A renewal of vows or religious ceremony is a symbolic ceremony. It is performed
by a Non denominational minister (please, notice that Catholic ceremonies cannot
be performed outside a church). The bride and groom will receive a symbolic
marriage certificate not legally valid.
Are weddings performed at RIU Hotels & Resorts Legal in the United States?
Yes, the legal ceremonies performed at any of the RIU Hotels & Resorts are legal
in the United States.
What documents are required to get married legally?
Mexico:
Original and certified copies of passports
Original and Apostilled copies of Birth Certificates ( with parents'
information)
Original and copies of tourist cards, provided upon entry to Mexico (please noe
that all names must appear in exactly the same way on tourist cards as they do
on passports)
Final divorce certificate, if applicable, translated into Spanish and apostilled
(please noe that divorced individuals cannot marry in Mexico until one year
after the divorce is finalized)
If widow or widower, husband or wife's certificate of death, translated into
Spanish and apostilled.
Blood test (HIV, RPR and RH) taken in Mexico & Medical certificate (please note
that results must be no more than 15 days prior to the ceremony)
Four witnesses ( 18 years of age or older )with copies of their passports and
tourist visas or provided locally by the Hotel
Please verify that names are the same on all documents or bring legal
confirmation of a name change (for example: Deed Pool, apostilled and
translated)
- If the Bride or groom is a minor, his or her parents must be present at the
ceremony and the individual's parents must present copies of their passports
three days prior.
- If the Wedding is between a Mexican and a foreigner, the foreigner must
personally request a permit at the Mexican immigration Office (in Cancun).
If my name is different from the passport and birth certificate will this
present a problem?
In this case, you should bring a legal document such as deed pool or divorce act
that confirms your name change.
What is an Apostille document, why do I need it and where can I get it?
The Apostille is a certificate that authenticates the signature of the public
official who has signed the document. An apostille certificate confirms the
person who signed a document has the authority to do so and that the document
should therefore be recognized as legal without further evidence in another
member state of the Hague Convention.
The Apostille must be required in the State where the document was made. The
Foreign offices of each state and country can provide the apostille.
Can I translate my divorce decree and apostille document prior to my arrival
to the Resort?
If applicable, you should translate your divorce decree and apostille in your
country before you arrive at the Resort.
I was divorced less than one year ago. Can I have my civil ceremony at the
Resort?
No, the divorce must have taken place at least one year prior to the new wedding
ceremony.
Do I need to take a blood test and, if so, what diseases do you test for?
HIV, syphilis and blood type tests are only required for weddings in Mexico.
Can I have a doctor perform the blood test in my country and take the results
to the Resort?
No.Tests must be performed in Mexico by a certified doctor (for the medical
certificate). Your wedding Co-ordinator will arrange the doctor appointment in
your hotel room.
Will I be able to participate in the wedding ceremony if one of the tests
cames back positive?
No, if HIV or syphilis comes back positive, the ceremony cannot be performed.
Will the judge perform the eremony if all our documents are not in order ?
Are there exceptions?
All documents must be in order before your ceremony.
Please verify all documentation prior departure to your departure for your
destination.
Do we need to send any documentation prior arrival?
Mexico: If your wedding is at any of the RIU Hotel or resort in Puerto Vallarta
or Los Cabos, all documents must be at your hotel at least 15 days prior your
arrival.
What kind of room will I be upgraded to?
Room upgrades are to the next level above your booked room, however upgrades are
subject to availability and not guaranteed.
How can I reserve my ceremony?
Please choose your prefer destination, Hotel and wedding package and submit your
request on the Riu website.
Which Hotel the Wedding will be at ?
In order to have a wedding at RIU Hotels & Resorts, at least 80 percent of the
wedding group must be staying at the same hotel.

If I am receiving the Free Wedding Packages do I still need to complete a
charge authorization form?
Yes, your credit card is required as a guarantee.$250 will be charged if you
cancel the ceremony 90 days or fewer from the scheduled date.
Do you perform ceremonies on Sundays?
No, Ceremonies are performed Monday through Saturday.
When is payment for optional services made?
Full payment should be made prior to the wedding ceremony at your meeting with
your onsite wedding coordinator.
Are we able to make raservations for our included wedding dinner prior to our
arrival?
yes. you may reserve an area in one of our restarurants prior to your arrival by
contacting your wedding coordinator and by making your request via email (you
will receive a confirmation by email).You may also make reservations once you
meet your wedding coordinator at the hotel.
Please note that restaurant reservations are subject to availability and
capacity.

Is there a Charge for the reception dinner ?
The Dinners offered in the Wedding Packages are non-private and they have no
extra charge. We sectionate an area for the Wedding Group in one of the
Speciality Restaurants.
Private Dinners are subject to availability, and might have extra charge.

information.
Is there a maximum or minimum number of guests required to reserve a
reception dinner?
No minimum number of guest is required to reserve a wedding reception dinner.

Are there different ceremony locations ?
Ceremonies can be performed on the beach or in a gazebo on property.
Catholic weddings in Punta Cana may only be performed in a gazebo.
How many ceremonies are held each day?
We schedule a maximum of two ceremonies per hotel per day. Availability for
ceremonies also depends on the number of guests invited to each wedding.
How long does the ceremony last?
Both legal and religious ceremonies last approximately 20 to 25 minutes.
Are there any optional services that must be reserved prior to our arrival at
the hotel?
We recommend finalizing special requests such as private restaurant
reservations, ballrom or nightclub reservations, DJs, special menus, wedding
cake designs and any similar type requests prior arrival.
Will I have to contact my wedding co-ordinator upon arrival to the Resort?
You will be informed by email before your arrival of both the date and time
of your meeting with your Wedding Co-ordinator.
When do I reserve Salon Services such as hair appointment, nail services, etc
?
We invite you to visit www.renovaspa, where you will find the detailed
service information and can make reservations on line.
You can also contact your onsite wedding co-ordinator prior arrival. She will
help you with your spa appointments.
If I have guests who want to attend the Wedding, but will not be staying at
RIU Hotels & Resorts, is this possible ?
In order to host a wedding at RIU Hotels & Resorts, the bride, groom and at
least 80 percent of the guests must be staying at the Resort. guests staying in
other hotels must purchase a day pass to attend the ceremony and dinner.
Day passes cost between $50 and $100 (US) depending on the destination and
hotel.
Will our Marriage certificate be issued in English or Spanish?
Your marriage cerificate will be issued in Spanish at Riu Hotels & Resorts in
Mexico or the Dominican Republic. Marrieage certificates will be issued in
English at Riu Hotels & Resorts in Jamaica or the Bahamas.
